Generally, mass finishing processes involve grinding operations which – depending on the finishing application, machine type and grinding/polishing media – can be highly abrasive. Of course, the mass finishing media are equally attacking the work pieces as well as the inside of the work bowl. That is why the inside of the steel work bowls is protected by wear resistant polyurethane. Because of the physical characteristics of polyurethane this type of lining is much more resistant against abrasive wear than hard, metallic work pieces. Even though polyurethane linings offer an excellent wear protection, they do not last forever and must be replaced, once they are worn through!
