Edge rounding produces uniform radii, which improve component quality and reduce the risk of damage or injury. Sharp edges often arise during machining processes such as milling, turning or punching, and can impair functionality as well as subsequent processing.
The process has applications in numerous industrial sectors, particularly in metalworking, the Automotive industry, electronics manufacturing and aerospace engineering. In these sectors, it helps to extend the service life of components and ensure consistently high quality.
- Reduced risk of injury and damage
- Longer service life of components
- Consistent quality through defined edge radii

Parts with rounded edges slide more easily over and into one another; one example is the buckle tongues on seat belts. With mass finishing, edges can be specifically rounded to a predefined radius.
Compared with deburring, this process requires a significantly higher grinding rate. The appropriate combination of machine, consumables and running time can be determined through trials at Walther Trowal’s technical centre.
Our abrasive media for edge rounding remove material precisely from the edges, whilst exerting less stress on the flat surfaces. Even on complex-shaped workpieces, they can reach edges that are virtually inaccessible during manual edge rounding.
Circular vibratory finishing machine
The all-rounders.
Centrifugal finishing systems
For small and medium-sized workpieces, several times more effective grinding action than circular vibratory finishing machines, optionally available as a two-batch system.
Drag finishing systems
For even more intensive processing of very high-quality, high-cost workpieces.
Trough vibratory finishing machine
The workpieces are usually fed loose into the trough. Delicate parts can be secured individually in clamping devices or processed loose in separate partitioned chambers.

With our Walther Trowal machines, you can perform edge rounding precisely, evenly and consistently. Our abrasive media remove material primarily from the edges and can reach even hard-to-access areas of complex components. At our Test & Training Centre, we develop the right process for achieving your desired radius.
