Blasting using continuous shot blasting systems

Continuous shot blasting systems: Continuous and gentle

Continuous blasting is characterised by particularly straightforward handling of workpieces and a high degree of repeatability in the blasting process. Furthermore, the systems can be integrated very easily into continuous processes.

Flexibility with complex geometries

Continuous shot blasting systems with a unique tumble belt

Our THM continuous processing machines are used for blasting workpieces made of aluminium, zinc, brass and steel, primarily for

Thanks to their unique trough belt principle, they can be integrated very easily into networked processes.

Blasting technology creates uniform surfaces

Consistent blasting with continuous shot blasting systems

Trough-belt continuous processing machines offer significant advantages, particularly for workpieces where high standards of surface quality are required: within the trough, the individual parts hardly come into contact with one another; instead, they roll gently along the soft PURALON® coating on the trough bars and do not collide with one another.

Our THM continuous blasting systems are designed for both bulk material and complex, delicate individual parts made from various metals.

Examples of steel components include pliers, ring spanners and open-ended spanners, or car connecting rods. Brass fittings are also processed in these systems. Typical aluminium forgings include steering knuckles and swivel bearings, as well as die-cast aluminium parts such as housings, lids, caps and levers.

Examples of zinc die-castings include model car casings or delicate parts used in the furniture, electrical and Automotive industries.

Many structural components made of magnesium – such as dashboard supports in vehicles, and housings for chainsaws and engines – are also processed in our THM continuous processing machines.

Our THM continuous shot blasting systems are also used for surface hardening through shot peening.

Advantages of
Continuous shot blasting systems
at a glance

The continuous trough conveyor principle offers many advantages over batch operation:

  • Continuous, gentle processing of bulk material and individual parts of varying sizes and shapes
  • Automatic or manual workpiece feeding
  • Easy integration into production processes

Smart machining with continuous shot blasting systems

Continuous-flow Blasting

The trough conveyor system, which Walther Trowal is the only manufacturer of blasting machines to use, conveys the workpieces particularly gently through the machine in a spiral motion. In the process, the parts are continuously circulated and blasted evenly from all sides.

Minimal manual effort required for continuous shot blasting systems

Simple workpiece handling

THM continuous processing machines for blasting are becoming increasingly popular, not least because of the ease with which workpieces of varying geometries can be handled: larger parts are placed on the conveyor belt, whilst bulk materials are fed automatically into the machines from a hopper.

Gentle handling of workpieces

Optimally matched blasting media

For continuous blasting , we use blasting media of varying hardness, shape and size. These are often made of steel or stainless steel.

In particular, the blasting of forged or die-cast parts made from light metals requires a soft or non-ferritic blasting medium. Aluminium is being used more and more frequently for this purpose: it enables an even gentler surface treatment whilst reducing operating costs.

Continuous shot blasting systems save resources

Energy-efficient blasting technology

THM continuous shot blasting systems operate with high energy efficiency: as the turbines are positioned close to the hopper, fine blasting media can be used or the turbine speed can be reduced.

Blasting technology for modern production lines

Continuous shot blasting systems
integrate seamlessly

Continuous processing machines replace time-consuming batch processes, as they are fully integrated into the production lines. Many users position the blasting machine immediately downstream of their forging line or die-casting machine. This ensures that the parts enter the machine at the same rate at which they are produced in the upstream equipment. Both the intermediate transport from one process stage to the next and the temporary storage of parts are eliminated entirely.
