Coating surfaces provides components with an additional protective or functional layer that specifically enhances their properties. For example, the coating can protect against corrosion and wear, reduce friction or enhance the visual appearance of the workpieces. At the same time, surfaces can be adapted to specific requirements, such as conductivity, sliding behaviour or chemical resistance.
Coating processes are used in many industrial sectors, particularly in metalworking, the Automotive industry, mechanical and plant engineering, and electronics manufacturing. They help to extend the service life of components, optimise their functionality and ensure a consistently high surface quality.
- Longer service life through protection against corrosion and wear
- Improved performance, for example through optimised lubricity or conductivity
- Consistently high-quality appearance and surface finish

Coating of small parts in large quantities in a Rotamat machine
Coating with Rotamat machines is the cost-effective solution for surface finishing of small mass-produced parts made from elastomers, metal or wood – such as O-rings, handles, springs or screws. The Rotamat is suitable for coating with a wide range of speciality or effect coatings, anti-seize coatings, adhesion promoters or insulating layers. Both water-based and solvent-based coatings, as well as single- or two-component coatings, can be used.
Typical applications include:
- Decorative coating
- Anti-seize coating
- Adhesive coating
- Corrosion protection
- Insulating coating
Depending on the application, this results in decorative finishes, friction-reducing anti-seize coatings, high-strength bonded joints, effective corrosion protection or electrical insulation layers. Different paints, binders and single- or two-coat systems can be specifically tailored to the requirements of the component in question.
A wide range of specialised surfaces
Do you want your surfaces to be decorative and look attractive? With a wide selection of decorative coatings, functional coatings, environmentally friendly solvent-free coatings, and 1- and 2-component speciality coatings, we lay the foundation for the finishing of your surfaces.
Cost-effective thanks to Rotamat®
Just a few years ago, surface finishing with special coatings was far too expensive and uneconomical. With our Rotamat, you can spray-coat your small mass-produced parts made of plastic, elastomer, metal or wood evenly, cost-effectively and quickly. Naturally, the process is tailored to your requirements and needs, offering flexibility for both standard and bespoke solutions.
Your benefits at a glance
- Wide selection of different coatings
- The basis for surface finishing
- A cost-effective solution for small mass-produced parts
- Decorative finishes
In order to reduce friction coefficients and prevent chattering and stick-slip effects, it is particularly important to apply organic and inorganic substances to O-rings, sealing components, valve stems, etc.
For a strong bond between the elastomer and the substrate
For the production of seals or vibration-damping elements, we use an adhesive coating to create a strong bond between the elastomer and the substrate (metal or plastic). To ensure the end product is as robust as possible, we use either water-based or solvent-based binders during this vulcanisation process, depending on the material.
A single component combines the properties of two components
Some solutions require just a single layer, but two-layer systems – consisting of a primer and a cover – are more common. This results in a component made from two materials that combines the positive properties of both, for example rubber and metal. The metal element provides stability, whilst the rubber element can fulfil various functions. The choice of elastomer depends on the component’s intended application, such as sealing, damping or another function.
Your benefits at a glance
- Strong bond between the elastomer and the substrate
- Robust end product thanks to vulcanisation
- Single- and two-layer systems
- A single component combining the beneficial properties of two components
Reliable protection against environmental factors
Rain, wind, heat, storms: the environment constantly affects metal surfaces. This results in material fatigue, malfunctions, failures and, of course, visual changes such as rust spots.
Corrosion protection with Rotamat coating systems
Even a very thin protective layer is sufficient to protect your surfaces from corrosion. Naturally, we do not use any environmentally harmful chemicals. With our Rotamat coating system, your small mass-produced parts are given a corrosion-protective coating – quickly and cost-effectively.
Your benefits at a glance
- Effective protection against environmental factors
- No use of environmentally harmful chemicals
- Cost-effective thanks to the Rotamat coating system
To prevent damage caused by contact
Insulation coatings are essential for ensuring the reliable operation of modern plant and machinery. To this end, Walther Trowal uses liquid materials, amongst other things. Special coatings can be applied precisely and reproducibly in our Rotamat machines. This enables us, for example, to perform coating operations on ferrite cores and rings, as well as on capacitor sleeves, using our Rotamat machines.
