Mass finishing is about more than just machinery: excellent surface quality combined with high cost-effectiveness can only be achieved through the right combination of machinery and processing media.
In the more than 90 years since Walther Trowal was founded, we have developed a comprehensive range of abrasive media and treatment agents.
Our experts will advise you on selecting the right combination and will carry out tests with you at our Test & Training Centre (TTC) in Haan.

Just like our machines, we also manufacture the abrasive media and treatment agents ourselves at our own plants in Haan and Stoke-on-Trent. This ensures that all components of the vibratory finishing process are perfectly matched to one another. It guarantees optimally tailored solutions throughout the entire process chain.
Abrasive compounds are a key component of any vibratory finishing process. Not only do they play a crucial role in the finishing result, but they also provide (temporary) protection against corrosion and can perform cleaning and degreasing on workpieces.
A wide range is available to suit the various tasks. Some, for example, achieve a particularly high level of cleaning, whilst others are specifically suited to polishing.

The shape and material of the abrasive media determine how they act on the workpieces … for example, whether they tend to machine the surfaces or the edges. With our wide range of abrasive media, we can optimally adapt the process to different types of workpiece and machining methods.
Depending on the application, we select the appropriate material, the correct abrasiveness and the ideal geometry: some are better suited to rough grinding, others to polishing. And yet others are shaped in such a way that they can also reach the internal contours of workpieces.
Plastic abrasive media process workpieces in a particularly gentle manner. They are mostly used for light metals and non-ferrous metals; after processing, the surfaces tend to be dark and matt.
Due to their high density, ceramic abrasive media generate very high grinding pressure. They are characterised by short machining times and remove even hard burrs quickly. On steel workpieces, they produce bright surfaces.
For specialist applications and fine deburring, we supply steel or glass beads. For workpieces that require pressure deburring and ball polishing, we primarily use steel balls, satellites and pins. Glass balls are suitable for the gentle fine deburring of complex-shaped parts – including those with internal contours.
