In the Rotamat R 100, the workpieces roll over one another in a rotating barrel, mix thoroughly and enter the spray nozzle area with varying orientations. This results in a uniform coating thickness.
The special drum shape, the adjustable rotational speed and the continuously variable tilt angle ensure optimum tumbling and mixing of the parts. The ideal parameters for different workpiece geometries and processes are determined in preliminary tests and stored in the machine.
Bars of different sizes can be easily interchanged, allowing the Rotamat to be flexibly adapted to different batch sizes and processes. A 3S coating for the Barrel, as well as non-stick coatings for the inside of the hood and the Barrel housing, are available as options. Once the coating process is complete, the Barrel is swivelled by a motor and the workpieces are discharged.
The coating material is applied evenly inside the rotating barrel by an automatic spray gun. Optionally, two spray systems can be used, for example for base and top coats or primer and finish. The HVLP spray guns operate with low mist formation and minimal overspray. The process can be monitored at any time via a viewing window and explosion-proof LED lighting.
During the coating process, filtered, preheated air is fed into the Barrel to bring the workpieces up to the optimum processing temperature. An IR sensor continuously measures the component temperature and regulates the supply air accordingly. This results in a uniformly coated surface that bonds strongly with the substrate and dries during the coating process itself. Separate post-drying in an oven is not required.
An industrial PC controls and monitors the entire process. The integrated recipe management system stores all relevant process parameters – such as supply air volume and temperature, drum speed, spray rate and spray pattern – and these can be retrieved at any time. Touchscreen operation, process visualisation and monitoring functions ensure simple operation and reproducible results.
The Rotamat machine is equipped with a four-stage exhaust air system, consisting of a cardboard labyrinth filter, a filter mat and bag filters. During the coating process, a slight, adjustable negative pressure is maintained inside the Barrel, ensuring that harmful gases do not escape into the ambient air.
