Following the forging process , scale, oxide layers, burrs and other manufacturing-related surface irregularities must be removed in order to ensure the required component quality and create the best possible conditions for subsequent machining, Coating or assembly processes. As some parts are visible in their subsequent application, a uniform surface finish also plays a significant role.
In industrial practice, Mass finishing – a process we invented – and Blasting have proven their worth, as they enable the cost-effective and reproducible finishing of a wide variety of component geometries and materials. Walther Trowal plays a leading role, particularly in the finishing of parts made from forged light metal.
Flexibility in manufacturing
Trowalizing: batch or continuous
The purpose of trowalizing forged parts is, in particular, to perform deburring, rounding off edges and smoothing the surface.
When processing is carried out in batches, circular vibratory finishing machines, trough vibratory finishing machines or centrifugal finishing systems are frequently used for mass finishing of forged parts.
If the systems are to be integrated into production lines where the forged parts are fed in continuously, AV continuous processing machines are used.

In step with production
Blasting: Integrated into the production process
Blasting is primarily used to remove scale and oxide layers that form during the heating and forming of the material.
In our THM series trough-belt continuous blasting systems, the forged parts are fed in time with the production line. This makes them the ideal solution for interlinked production processes, and they are increasingly replacing batch or overhead conveyor systems.
